Travel inspiration in Amsterdam and Zurich

Amsterdam

Amsterdam, capital city of the Netherlands

Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, is located in the province of North Holland. The city got its name from a dam in the river Amstel and was a small fishing village at its creation. Nowadays Amsterdam is a busy seaport and one of the top European financial centres as well as a major cultural hub. The canals, world-famous museums and historical sights makes Amsterdam one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe. It has all the advantages of a big city: culture, nightlife, restaurants with international cuisine, good transport system. However, the city has also a quiet and relaxed atmosphere largely thanks to its extensive canals, low road traffic, small green parks and flower fields. In Amsterdam, places of interest are never far away, get a bike or hop on a tram for an authentic local experience. Amsterdam can be reached easily by train from other European capitals - Paris, London or Brussels.

It is an elegant metropolis on the lake bearing its name, with views over the snow-covered Alps, home to over 50 museums, 100 galleries, top hotels, shops and restaurants. Obviously it has to be Zürich! With its excellent public transport connections, this prime Swiss destination is ideal for excursions to the rest of the country. 5 days there, and you will get to know all about Zürich and neighbouring towns.

Reviews & ratings Amsterdam - Zurich

"Night train"

  Jamie k.
Went on sleeper train Amsterdam to Zurich- my wife and I and our 3 daughters It was great. V comfy. Girls loved it. We all slept well. A new experience for us Good price too Only criticism is there were 5 of us and despite lots of free cabins they put another passenger in with us to make up the 6 which wasn't ideal for him or us.

"Amsterdam to Paris trip"

  Senthilkumar r.  08/10/2013
The train and the facilities were very good. The travel was worth for the money paid. However one item needs to be addresssed by the administration. There were many reserved ticket holders without seat numbers. As a tourist and speaking foreign language they were stranded with their luggages with no guidance on where to go. This can be avoided in future.
